As Dr. Seuss once said, “UNLESS someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better, it’s not.” This is absolutely true; our world is deteriorating because nobody is doing much about it. Land is less fertile, the air more polluted, and the water less drinkable. Our nation needs to make protecting our environment one of our top priorities. We’ve made ourselves a big mess, and it’s our job to clean up that mess.
One problem we’ve created is air pollution. This nasty, cruddy, murky air that exists in some areas causes cancer, heart attacks, and lung disease. Also, once this polluted air gets out, it’s real hard to clean up since this pollution is invisible. So it would be a lot easier to just stop making so much of this bad air in the first place.
Also, our reckless indifference has caused species to disappear. That’s right, extinction, and it happens every 20 MINUTES because of us. There are many causes of extinction: change of temperature, loss of habitat, pollution… but it all points to us. So even if biologists around the world are attempting to solve this dilemma, we should care about the birds in the sky, the fish in the sea, and all the rest.
And speaking of fish in the sea, our water is another problem. Drinkable water is valuable, because drinkable water is getting scarcer by the second, as the people who need it get bigger and bigger in count. 1 in 5 people don’t have access to drinkable water, and every day, thousands die from undrinkable water. So the next time you drink water, don’t just chug it down; be grateful and make the most of it.
So, to conclude, our world is like Dr. Seuss’s The Lorax. Our environment is in bad shape because nobody’s doing anything about it! “UNLESS someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better, it’s not.” But it’s not too late- if we all work together to restore Mother Nature, we’re not only helping Earth, we’re helping ourselves. If our beautiful planet is clean and happy and healthy, we’ll see the difference.
