Book Review – The Candymakers and the Great Chocolate Chase

Book Review - The Candymakers and the Great Chocolate Chase

Sofia Bolanos, Staff Writer

Have you read Wendy Mass’s The Candymakers? You’ll be glad to know that the sequel to the book just came out over the summer. In this story, the Life is Sweet factory is preparing for the production of the winning candy from a candy making contest. As all interested parties including the CandyMaker, the staff of the factory, Logan, Miles, and Philip are waiting for the first candy to come off the belt, the Candymaker makes the announcement that Logan, Miles and Philip (with the exception of Daisy) will be making a publicity tour to advertise the new candy, only to learn later that they will not be able to make the trip. Instead, Miles, Logan, Philip, and the surprise addition of Daisy make the trip with Daisy’s “cousin” and make pit stops that will change their lives forever.

One of the many great details in this book is how Wendy Mass incorporated different characters, details and places from her other books such as A Mango Shaped Space, Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life, Every Soul a Star, and the Willow Falls books. Like in many of Wendy Mass’s books, she adds a curve ball that changes the view of the story. In some parts of the story, you might find yourself rooting for a specific character.

This book is full of adventure, mystery and a lot of suspense. Even if you haven’t read The Candymakers or any of Wendy Mass’s books, you will see that she puts lots of effort to create a picture in your mind using wonderful descriptive language. Although this book is enormous (over 500!), you will not be able to put it down.
