The Springhurst Pumpkin Fair is a yearly tradition. The 30th edition was held this year on October 26th. It was a great success, as the PTSA raised over $21,000. This money will be used to fund programs that help the schools such as teacher grants and field trips.
The person running the event was Alice Dabiri, the PTSA president. She recognizes the importance of the pumpkin fair. Dabiri commented, “It brings the community together.’’
The Pumpkin Fair had a variety of activities, with two types of throwing games, football, basketball, and baseball games and a Moon Ball kicking game.
Hungry at the fair? Well, you were in luck because they had cheeseburgers, hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, and popcorn. If you wanted something sweet as well, they had a long table full of baked goods, from brownies to ube cupcakes. The Pumpkin Fair also offered face painting, inflatables and music.
The reason the PTSA raised so much money was because of ticket sales. You could buy up to 50 blue tickets for $40. You used those tickets to play games, eat food, and get drinks (You could also use these tickets to pay for the food and/or drinks). When you played a game you earned white tickets called win tickets. You could cash in those tickets in exchange for toys, such as stuffed animals and fidgets at one of the courtyard entrances.
Even though it was at Springhurst, there were plenty of middle schoolers and high schoolers, most of them even volunteering to run games. One of those volunteers, 6th Effy Knell, commented,
“It was very exciting, I am very grateful I got to work there.”
To wrap things up they had a chili contest; Jenny Holloway came in 3rd, Patrick Power came in 2nd and Katie Moss, 1st. They also had a pie contest and Melissa Kozusko won.
In total, a good time was had by all and all for a good cause!
