No, not basketball. It’s the DFMS library’s March Madness. It is the first time books have faced off to see which is the best in the library. Ms. Elsen is behind it and says that she got the idea from other libraries that do a similar thing.

The books were chosen because of their popularity and she had read some and liked them. Some of the books that had been entered into the library are, Diary of a Wimpy Kid – Big Shot, The Giver, FullMetal Alchemist, Naruto, Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library, New Kid, and Guts

It came down to Diary of a Wimpy Kid to The Giver, but the lucky winner was The Giver. Not surprising considering it is the only book from the list that everyone has read because it is a class book in 6th grade.

Sixth grader Jonah Bass participated in the first annual battle of the books. “It was a fun and a cool idea.” Personally I think it was fun to do something in school like this with friends.

Ms. Elsen says she might consider doing it again next year. And it is nice to have another March Madness to fill out when your basketball bracket is toasted.
