This Halloween, the Dobbs Ferry Middle School had its annual Halloween extravaganza. It was full of fun, laughter, and most important of all, costumes! Middle School Art Teacher Mr. Jeffrey Gonzalez has been running the event since he first arrived at DFMS. “When I first came here, there was an annual Halloween parade, but I wanted something better, something more.”
As usual, there was an annual costume contest. There were singular and grouped costumes being showcased. The winners wore creative costumes and were given prizes. Almost everyone dressed up for the event and went up to stage to show it. The decision was hard for the judges to pick the top three. Everyone wore fantastic costumes, so it was tight. The winners included sixth grader Jewel Surphlis as “Little Red Riding Hood”, eighth graders Camryn McCarthy, Samantha Straub, Jolie McDonnell, Isabel Long, and Kayla Moynihan as the “Mario-Karters”, and seventh grader Daniel Schwartz as “Ghostbusters”. Sixth grader Aaron Rerrie was awarded third place for his costume. He responded by saying, “It feels good, but it would’ve felt better if I had made it to 2nd or 1st.”Mr. Gonzalez also commented about the costumes saying, “At first I was impressed and surprised.”
Everything ran smoothly throughout the event. The videos were funny and everyone had a blast. Some of the videos included a Skeleton Band, and the Legend of Sleepy Hollow. The scenery was excellent and Mr. Gonzalez did an excellent job.
The teachers were also dressed up for the occasion. Some dressed up as minions and others as pageant winners. The sixth grade teachers were sports officials/referees. When we asked Mrs. Palladino how the teachers came up with the theme for their costumes, she said, “Every year we come up with a different theme; we try never to repeat it; sometimes we borrow costumes from each other if we have to.”
All in all, it was a stupendous event. Everyone seemed to have a wonderful time. The scenery was fantastic and credit to the staff who made the event so enjoyable.
