Baseball season has started, and here are the best and worst teams judging by roster, spring training, and performance last year.
WORST
Chicago White Sox
Nothing shows bad like the Chicago White Sox. Last season they were 41 – 121, and they were horrible offensively, defensively, and pitching. They were so bad that when they lost, instead of posting the score they said, “The other team had more runs than us.” If you think that the White Sox’s GM did everything they could to improve their team, you are wrong. They made practically no moves during the offseason, and they traded their best pitcher Garret Crochet for 3 minor league players. It can be agreed by almost everyone that the White Sox will not make the playoffs.
Los Angeles Angels
It is completely possible that the Los Angeles Angels might be good this season with a healthy Mike Trout and Jorge Soler, but everyone else on the team is pretty average. They went 11-18 in Spring Training, and they released former 1st overall pick Mickey Moniak to make room for a career .110 hitter. The Angels might be a better team than last year, but they are certainly not winning a World Series in 2025.
Seattle Mariners
The Mariners tied for the worst record in Spring Training with the White Sox, as both of them finished 11-19. The Mariners are an interesting team, because they have a lot of good players but they are just bad. With guys like Randy Arozarena, Julio Rodriguez, Bryan Woo, and George Kirby, the Mariners have potential at making a playoff spot. The only problem is, their hitting is horrible. In 2024, they posted a team slash line of .224/.311/.376. Compare this to a player like Shohei Ohtani (Slash line of .310/.390/.646), and suddenly one player is better than a whole team. If the Mariners work to get good hitting, they can be playoff contenders. Except they didn’t this offseason, which is why they are one of the worst teams in baseball going into 2025.
BEST
Atlanta Braves
Before a bunch of horrible injuries, the Braves were a very powerful roster. In 2024, they lost Spencer Strider, Ronald Acuna Jr., and Austin Riley. Now that they are all healthy, they can join an already stacked lineup of stars like Matt Olson, Chris Sale, and Jurickson Profar. The Braves have a powerful rotation and lineup, so with these tools 2025 looks good for them.
Boston Red Sox
This team on the list was probably unexpected for a lot of people. The thing is, the Boston Red Sox made a lot of great moves over the offseason, they made their lineup very strong. Gaining Walker Bueler and Garret Crochet definitely made their rotation better, joining a pitching staff of Lucas Giolito and Aroldis Chapman. After acquiring third baseman Alex Bregman, they can remove a fairly poor fielder Rafael Devers to DH. With the Red Sox in a pretty weak AL, they can get a playoff spot and potentially a World Series appearance if everything goes well for them.
Los Angeles Dodgers
This should surprise no one. After coming off of a World Series win, the Dodgers showed that they have one of the best lineups in baseball. The Dodgers did not slack in the offseason either, gaining Japanese pitcher Roki Sasaki, star closer Tanner Scott, and two-time Cy Young award winner Blake Snell. They started the season strong too, sweeping the Chicago Cubs in the Tokyo Series. The Dodgers dominated last season with only five losses in the postseason, and they have the highest odds out of every team in baseball of making, and winning, the World Series.
