On March 27th at 3:05 PM, the New York Yankees started their 2025 season against the Milwaukee Brewers.
The pitching matchup was Yankees’ southpaw pitcher Carlos Rodon versus the right handed Freddy Peralta.
In the first inning, Rodon retired the side, striking out Jackson Chourio, then getting Christian Yelich and William Contreas to ground out and pop out. In the bottom of the inning, on a 2-0 count, Yankee catcher Austin Wells hit a 93 mph fastball over the right center fence.
The power surge didn’t end there. The very next inning, Anthony Volpe smacked a 95 mph fastball to right center for a home run.
Peralta lasted 5 innings, giving up 4 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk, and 8 strikeouts. Rodon made it through 5.1 innings, with 4 hits, 2 walks, 7 strikeouts, and 1 run on a Vinny Capra home run.
The Yankees scored two more runs in the game, while the Brewers scored one in the ninth on a sac fly by Brice Turang off of new reliever Devin WIlliams.
Despite giving up a run, Williams got his first Yankee save, striking out Christian Yelich on a 3-2 count with a 95 mph fastball.
The New York Yankees won 4-2, and hopefully this win means plenty more this season.
