Have you ever wondered what it would be like if you forgot your name, age, and everything important about yourself! In The Girl in the Locked Room by Mary Downing Hahn, the character Lily, who is the girl in the room, forgot everything about herself and her past. This book is told from multiple points of view. It switches back and forth between the girl’s point of view (Lily) and Jules’ point of view. Jules is the daughter of the people renovating the house that the girl is in.
Jules is 12 years old and the girl is 11 years old. This is a good book for pre teens and a bit younger if you’re trying to get into scary books but you don’t want something too intense. It’s a pretty short story so if you’re looking for a quick read this also fits the bill. Lastly, for those trying to find a fast-paced ghost story and have no idea where to go this would be good.
I do wish the author would give a little more information on the house and property. We do learn the old owner was an artist but it’s not very in depth. There’s probably a lot of great history on that Virginia estate. The girl in the locked room (Lily) was a former occupant of the house. She lived there in the 1800’s with her two parents and her nanny.
Overall, this is a really good book. It has a lot of interesting elements and it’s easy to connect with the characters. I have never read anything like it. Try it out for yourself!
