Thor Ragna-rocked? Warning: Spoilers!

Brayden Recitas, Staff Movie Critic

Marvel Studios released its newest movie in the Thor franchise, Thor Ragnarok. Thor Ragnarok takes place on the the Planet Sakaar and the Realm Asgard in 2017. The main characters in this film are Thor, Loki, Odin, The Hulk/Bruce Banner, Valkyrie, and Hela. In case you don’t know, the entire Thor franchise is based off of Norse Mythology mixed with comic book fantasy.

At the beginning of Ragnarok, Thor is shown to be in a volcano then proceeds to beat up a giant lava monster called Surtur. He returns to Asgard with the skull of lava man to find Loki posing as Odin (the king of Asgard). When Loki and Thor find Odin with the help of Doctor Strange, Odin dies which releases Thor’s sister Hela, the goddess of death. Thor’s hammer, Mjölnir, gets broken.

After this, Loki tries to bail out which brings Hela to Asgard and she knocks them both to Sakaar. Sakaar is a place where gladiator tournaments happen. Thor is sent to fight The Hulk. The fight is reminiscent to the one in the movie and comic book Planet Hulk. The only difference is that Beta Ray Bill (the horse guy) and Hulk are fighting while in Ragnarok it is Hulk and Thor fighting.

Later in the movie, Thor, Hulk/Bruce Banner, Valkyrie (a really cool Asgardian) escape through a hole to Asgard called: “The Devil’s Anus”. After they escape Sakkar we learn the truth about Asgard through Hela smashing a roof. Here, Hela revives a lot of dead warriors.

Then Hiemdal steals The Bifrost Sword. This means Hela is stuck on Asgard!  When Thor, Valkyrie, and Hulk land they fight some dudes. Thor loses an eye, gets a cool spiritual visit from Odin telling him how to kill Hela, and gets surrounded by lightning. The Hulk fights a giant wolf, and Surter is back, but really, really huge. All the Asgardians escape in a giant ship which some gladiators and Loki came in who helped kill some dead people. Then everyone sees Asgard get blown up by Surtur; with Hela on it!

During the credits we see Thor and Loki talking like brothers when a giant ship comes up out of nowhere! Then it cuts out to the rest of the credits.

I personally believe that Thor Ragnarok was better compared to all of the other Thor Movies combined. Thor was much more witty in this movie than the previous other movies he was in. The fight scenes were exceptional and when paired with the stunning special effects it was amazing! I would recommend this to all of my friends and family. I rate this a 4.5 on the “Soos’ Pudding Cup Scale”.
