Questions of Rey’s Lineage Linger After The Force Awakens

Is Rey the granddaughter of Obi-Wan Kenobi? The daughter of Luke?  Or maybe the daughter of Han and Leia?  This is a question many are asking.  When the new Star Wars movie, The Force Awakens came out, this rumor was popping up everywhere.  The question is, are any of these realistic enough to be true?

The question that is coming from many is Who is Rey related to?  Lots of people believe she is the granddaughter of Obi-Wan Kenobi.  It is thought she is the daughter of the unknown child of Obi-Wan.  There are other defenses against this claim.  For example, Rey has a similar way of fighting to Obi-Wan Kenobi.  She also dresses in a “robe” alike to the one worn by Obi-Wan, and they both could use the same Jedi mind trick.  When Rey touches Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber, although she hears the voices of Luke and Yoda, she also hears the voice of Obi-Wan say, “Rey, these are your first steps.”  It is an intriguing theory that Rey is the granddaughter of Obi-Wan Kenobi, but the question is, Is it true?

The theory that Rey is the daughter of Luke Skywalker and an unknown mother is not unreasonable.  After all, Luke was the star of the fourth, fifth, and sixth Star Wars movies, and it would make some sense if his daughter was Rey.  Also, when Kylo Ren looked into Rey’s thoughts, he sees her dreams of an isolated, deserted island in the middle of a wide ocean.  This brings in a connection because this is where Rey eventually finds Luke.  Also, don’t forget that it was the lightsaber of Luke that called to Rey, which seems to show some sort of connection.  

The theory of Rey being the daughter of Han and Leia is also a strong one.  After all, it doesn’t seem to be pure coincidence that she is living on the same planet as the Millennium Falcon.  Also, in the scene when Rey arrives back at the Resistance’s headquarters, Leia walks straight past Chewy and gives Rey a huge motherly-like hug.  To add on to that, if Rey were the daughter of Han and Leia, when Kylo Ren turned over to the Dark Side, Leia would have felt a need to hide Rey somewhere for protection.  This is not unlike Leia’s experience with Luke, and it could have been her sudden reaction to try and separate her twins as far away as possible.  There is, still, however, the possibility that Rey could be the daughter of unknown people, and all of the prior theories are false.

This is the main question coming out from the newest Star Wars movie; Who is Rey related to?  The theories of her being related to Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Leia, or Obi-Wan Kenobi are all good ones, but everyone wants to know who she really is.  Now it comes down to the next movie to hopefully find out from whom Rey came from.
