Fun times were had by all at the annual Springhurst Pumpkin Fair.

On October 22nd,  Springhurst Elementary School held it’s annual festival, the Pumpkin Fair! This year it was held inside the school due to rain, instead of outside, as it was in years past. But this sure didn’t keep the crowds away!

This year, the gym, cafeteria, and the hallways were filled with  people lining up to play the games and to enjoy the delicious food. The activities included face painting, bouncy castles, pick your own pumpkin, guess the weight of the pumpkin, carnival games, and more. Some of the best things to do there were definitely the karate demonstration, obstacle course, spin art, and sand art.

The food was also outstanding, as it is every year. There were local vendors, and an endless table with donated baked goods  as well as the annual chili and pie baking contests. Everything tasted so good!

The rain may been inconvenient, but perhaps it led to an even greater success. William Hunt, a local Dobbs Ferry resident said, “I think the Pumpkin Fair of 2016 raised a lot of money, maybe even more than usual. When it is outside people can just talk and listen to the live band. However, since it was inside this year, people don’t really have that option.  Instead, they are sort of forced to do all the games and things.”

The annual event is sure to have continued success, whether inside or out.  A 6th grade volunteer, Liat Cohen, commented on the general mood of the pumpkin fair.  “The pumpkin fair was a big success and everything was just as good as it would be outside. Although I do miss the hay ride.”
