Everyone has done things they are proud of, but few can check off acting in movies, television shows and commercials. Meet Isa Alexander, current seventh grader at Dobbs Ferry Middle School. Since Alexander was four, she has been acting with Clock Tower Players, a musical theater company. She is following in the footsteps of her grandmother and parents, all who are a part of the acting business, but she has had many of her own successes. She has acted in the movie Away We Go, directed by Sam Mendes, and the television show Royal Pains, a USA Network series. She has also been the star of numerous Clock Tower Players productions, including the role of Annie in Annie, Peter Pan in Peter Pan, and Sally in Charlie Brown.
When asked about what she enjoys about acting, Alexander lights up. “[When acting] that’s when I feel my best self…that’s when I feel my happiest.” Acting lets her shine and shows her true talent. “You show people what you can really do,” she says.
Despite her success in performing, the stage has not dominated her whole life. Her parents did not wish the role of childhood actor for her, not wanting her childhood to be taken away by a stressful schedule of always acting. To do this, her agent, the same managing her mother and grandmother, lines up an audition for her around every two months. However, Alexander only auditions after it has been decided the part is beneficial to her.
With all the ways she has shined in performing, it comes as no surprise that an actress is her dream job as an adult. When asked whether she would rather star on Broadway or on the screen, she chooses both! She certainly has the experience for either, as she performed in a Broadway workshop for the performance Touched, and the next year was asked to return in Los Angeles. Acting is truly her talent, and as she says, “When you’re in front of a live audience, and they laugh or applaud at one of your lines or songs, you feel really good.”
