A lot of students pass by Ms. Johansen’s (6th Grade science teacher) room. If you do happen to walk by it you might notice this thing on the wall. A big thing. Well, this thing was made by all the sixth graders for science. What they made was a huge Periodic Table!
This was Johansen’s first time doing this particular project. The second year science teacher was looking for a more creative way for students to learn about the elements of the Periodic Table. “I thought it would be a fun way to learn about the elements on the Periodic Table, and there wasn’t enough time to learn every single one.” Did it meet her expectations? She added, “Everyone did a good job. I’m happy with the outcome. And the color coding I chose was perfect!”
A lot of the sixth graders enjoyed doing this project. Each student was assigned their own element, and they had to make a little element card where they decorated, colored, and designed it the way they wanted. “It was a fun project because we actually got to design our own element in 3D!” commented sixth grader Alisha Pandya. Fellow sixth grader Alex Falter agreed. “It was very interesting. How many other schools have giant Periodic Tables made by students?”
Next time when you pass Ms. Johansen’s room be sure to take a look at that thing on the wall!
